Knox Affordable Housing Feasibility Study

After much study and discernment, Knox Presbyterian Church decided in December 2007 to proceed with an Affordable Housing Feasibility Study. Knox, different churches, Presbytery and individuals have committed funds to complete it. The purpose is to determine what types of housing are possible, under what conditions, for whom, and with what development, funding, operations and ownerships options. Knox is determined to find out if it is possible for a small urban church with dedicated partners to create much needed affordable housing in the area.

  1. How is it possible for Knox Presbyterian Church to pursue creating and embracing affordable housing in our greater neighborhood of Emerson Garfield, West Central and Downtown?
  2. The other vision is how might the land and excess building capacity be used including some shared usage by residents of the housing?
  3. Can Knox grow this vision?
  4. Do they chose too?
  5. How can they?
  6. How is Gods’ spirit working amongst us to grow the mission of the church and the church itself? How does that work? How can it work?

The final options will be selected by the Affordable Housing Task Force appointed by Session, and Session itself. This will be presented to the congregation for their review, consideration, discernment and decision. It is expected that the final options will be completed this summer with final decision by the congregation in the fall of 2008.
